Note from the Field

Dearest friends and loved ones, we 6 are back in Chengdu dirty and exhausted and almost ready to come home.

On Sunday, we created a reverent and beautiful, heartfelt loving ceremony in the crematorium up in Qongding for the boys. After preparing the bodies with traditional Tibetan funeral silks, we also wrapped up some of Micah's things along with written prayers and wishes and placed him on Jonny's chest. We all spoke to them individually, and to all three, sharing impromptu thoughts as well as written words. Nick Martino shared a biblical verse chosen for Micah by his mother, Anita, and I shared a memorized passage from Whitman's Song of Myself as well as The Journey, by Mary Oliver for all of them. I also read the last entry in Jonny's journal, a song he was writing called Border Country, and several letters from his family, all of which we included with them as they were cremated.

Your loving thoughts from home have been a source of strength for us here, and have imbued us with the courage to carry out this mission. Looking forward to coming home...

lots of love,

Mick Follari

We just read your beautiful note from the field and we are very touched by all the things you did for Jonny, Wade and Micah. We are grateful that you were able to perform such a beautiful and meaningful ceremony which shows what loving and caring friends you all were. The efforts from everyone in Boulder have been remarkable. Maybe sometime we'll have a chance to thank you in person, either here in Fullerton or in Boulder.
Our love and best wishesto you all for the future,

Your courage, friendship, and sensitivity are amazing. It is heartening to know that the boys had a send off and tribute as special as this. We were lucky to have them among us for this way too short period of time, and we are incredibly fortunate to that you are their frieds.

thank you for going to china to try to find Michah. I have known him since he was a little boy, ringlets, always smiling, embracing life fully, always finding the humor in any situation.never afraid of any challange. I know that all these young men lived life with passion, yet my heart aches for their families and friends who loved them so much. thanks again for your enormous efforts and love for these amazing young men.

A giant hug to you all for putting yourselves at risk to recover my beloved nephew, Jonny and Micah. The send-off you were able to give them all has been hugely comforting and I appreciate your posting the details of it here. Thank you so much.

As I sit here with tears in my eye for this tragedy I am aware of how good life is and how valuble friends are. My sincere sorrow goes out to their friends and family. Were are good friends of John and his family and I am proud to have known him and to have spent good times with these people.
God bless them and you for your effort.
