    Dear Friends,

I can't tell you how sorry both Shirley and I are the news of Jonathon. John Yao had called last evening with the tragic news.

It was wonderful for you to post this on the web. Although it doesn't lessen the family pain, it is good to know that old friends can hear it directly from you and share in your grief. It's hard to believe how time passes.

The first tme I met Jonathon he was probably a senior in HS there in Fullerton. Beyond that I recall the pride of his Dad in Jonathon's accomplishments when we met over various projects that we worked on together. At least we all know that he died doing the one thing that was the centerpiece of his life.

We wish you the strength to survive this tragedy in your lives.

    Love,

    Shirley & John Ludemann

I just watched the clip from the Sharp End and am still smiling. Instead of anguishing as to why Jonathan couldn't have just stayed home and played golf, I now see why he didn't, why he couldn't. The fun of it, the crazy challenge of it, the joy of those boys. How could we wish that to be different just so we didn't have to have our hearts broken.

I remember watching this for the first time in the living room of the Copp's house - how we laughed as Jon added live commentary to the film! Nights at the Copp house with family & friends are certainly among my most treasured memories, and checking in on what these crazy guys were up to was a big part of the fun. I'm almost glad they didn't dwell on the "why" too much, and spent more time being masters of their trade so that we could have them in our lives for as long as possible.
